Education

I have a PhD in mathematics, from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) . During my undergraduate studies, my minor was philosophy, which I studied togehter with mathematics during 3 years (with a rate of approximately 1/3 philosophy and 2/3 mathematics). I am a native french speaker, and I won my high school's best french baccalaureate award.

Experience

7+ years as a tutor in maths/french, all levels from school to undergraduate level 5 years as a teaching assistant in mathematics at my University (implied working with students, grading exams, supervising seminars) 3 years as an external expert in mathematics for the final baccalaureate exams in the best High School in my state. Various experciences as a speaker / workshop organizer in schools, popularizing mathematics My technical background as well as my teaching experience allowed me to develop a student-oriented approach, based first on the student's feeling about his/her abilites as well as about his/her particular issues. I believe that nobody is bad at maths, but that maths can sometimes be a bit dry and discouraging, which is why I focus first on a more general approach of the discipline. My goal is that eventually, the student sees maths as a game with maybe strange rules, but where the challenge is more to solve the riddle than to be frustrated by some mysterious symbols. As a native french speaker loving his mothertongue, I have a deep pleasure in reading and speaking it, as well as in sharing my enthusiasm for this sometimes a bit strange language. In my opinion, learning is something which has to be (at lease a bit of) a pleasure. So my primary goal is to help you to reconnect/discover that beyond the difficulties, you have every ability in order to achieve your goals. And to show you that this can even be done by taking fun (well, together with a reasonable level of pain/work, of course) :)
